Trinidad-born Dr.Hedy Fry, Liberal Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre since 1993 and the longest serving female Canadian Member of Parliament, will be the keynote speaker today at a networking event in Trinidad at which #CaribbeanMenCan solidarity campaign will be launched.
The High Commission for Canada in Port of Spain has teamed up with Interclub, a coalition of women organizations, and the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies to create the movement of “men of influence” in Trinidad and Tobago ” to inspire change and progress.”
Dr. Fry will discuss the need for women’s leadership, and solidarity with men and youth in order to influence policy makers, engage the private sector and NGOs, reach communities and inspire individuals to make lasting progress toward gender equality and empowerment.
On Saturday, Dr. Fry will also be a keynote speaker at the #PressforProgress Conference hosted by the Lily Foundation for Human Development in Tobago.
The Conference will bring together 100 Tobagonian girls and women “to create a safe space for open and on-going communication and to combat gender based violence.”
