Trinidad-born woman, husband shot dead in US

A Trinidad-born woman and her husband were found dead  last Thursday in New Mexico.

The bodies of Ursula Tammy Kokotkiewicz, 32, who lived in Brampton and had moved to the United States, and husband, Jacob, 31, who served in the US army, were found with gunshot wounds to the head.

Their bodies were found in a pick-up truck along the side of a US Interstate highway about 30 miles outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico State police said.

A nine millimetre handgun was found between the legs of Jacob Kokotkiewicz, who was in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

Ursula Kokotkiewicz was found slumped in the front passenger’s seat.

She was employed as a teacher at a school in North Dallas, Texas and was living with her husband in Flower Mound, Texas, about 45 kilometres northwest of Dallas.

She studied at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto, said her Facebook page.

According to her Instagram account, she and her husband were on a road trip travelling through national parks.

Jacob Kokotkiewicz had served as a deputy sheriff in Indianapolis, local media said.

Family members of the dead woman have started a GoFundMe campaign to try and raise money to bring her body back to Canada for ” a proper burial.”
