Manifesto and the CBC Hip-Hop Summit puts Canadian rappers on a long-awaited pedestal
CBC’s Atrium came alive on Friday April 1st from 1.30pm and continued all day with some of the best Canadian HipHoppers, both mind-blowing and unbelievable. Marking the closing week of a month’s worth of hip-hop homage-paying by the CBC, the performance was basically the line-up of a lifetime for Canadian HipHop fans: The event featured great performances by Thrust, DJ L’Oqenz, Q-Rock, PG; the Big Norm Show with DJ Dopey, D-Sisive, JB, Frankie Payne, Northbuck, Scott Jackson, and Diana Reyes, plus a breaker battle and much more. Seriously, we were rubbing shoulders and clicking shutters with the best Canadian rappers and HipHop breakers.
“Hip hop is such a vibrant part of contemporary culture,” said Mark Steinmetz, director of radio music for CBC. “We are incredibly excited to honour Canadian hip hop as both an art form and a movement with The Hip Hop Summit – a celebration of this magnitude has never been experienced by Canadians before.”
Manifesto is a non-profit grassroots organization working to unite and energize Totonto's urban music and arts community and find innovative ways of working together towards common goals.
