Nathaniel Thompson
The charitable organization has signed agreements with the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children to pay for the treatment of Nathaniel Alexis Thompson, aged 8 months, who is suffering from heart problems. TCCF also agree to assist Terry Mahabir, 15, who has bladder problems.
Both children are from Trinidad, and the surgeries they require are not available in their homeland. TCCF will pay a total of $50,000 to Sick Kids for the surgeries.
Thompson’s illness requires him to have Atrial Switch and Ventricular Septal Defect Closure, which will be performed by Dr Andrew Redington, the head of the hospital’s Cardiology Division.
Mahabir’s illness requires him to have Cysto and Bladder Neck Reconstruction, as well as Redo Epispadias Bladder augmentation and Mitrofanoff, which will be performed by Dr Pipp Salle, head of the hospital’s Division of Urology.
“Our continued commitment to helping critically ill children such as Nathaniel and Terry is what makes our fundraising events all the more important,” said TCCF president Jay Brijpaul, in reference to the charity’s annual Valentines Dinner and Dance to be held next Saturday (February 11) at the Empire Banquet Hall.
“All proceeds from the dinner and dance will go towards the charity’s standing fund from which money is drawn to pay for surgeries like those required by Nathaniel and Terry.”
TCCF is a registered Canadian charity, and will issue tax receipts for any donations sent in. Donors are urged to help by mailing their financial contributions to TCCF, 33 Moorehead Crescent, Brampton, ON L6Z 4K6, or by making a donation to any branch of TD Canada Trust, account #0305003, Branch 1550.
Tickets for the Valentine’s Dinner and Dance are still available, and can be obtained by calling 905-840-6484 or 416-498-9962.
