This dramatic photo shows hundreds of Haitians scrambling up a hillside in Port-au-Prince to get

to a hovering helicopter in anticipation
that the aircraft contains some sort of aid, which the earthquake ravaged victims desperately need. Canada has announced that it will
provide $135 million in immediate aid, and will send more rescue workers on the ground in Haiti.

Making it count

The Camera’s initial reaction to last week’s tragedy in Haiti was to try to organise a fundraising event, but given the amount of similar efforts taking place within the community, we have decided not to “compete” with the organisers of such events, but rather, play a supporting role. This is why this week, you will find a page devoted to the support of the communitywide efforts, which is our contribution ... for now. We figured that this was the best way to make our support count, by spreading the word -- which is what we do best. If you’re having a Haiti event, email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for a free listing.
