The nationwide survey was conducted by the ANSA McAL Psychological Research Center at UWI.
A representative random sample of 503 respondents comprised people 18 years and over with 37 per cent Afro-Trinidadians, 41 per cent Indo-Trinidadians, 21 per cent Mixed persons and one per cent Other. The sample consisted of 48 per cent males.
The poll was supervised by Dr Derek Chadee, Manager, ANSA McAL Psychological Research Centre and Senior Lecturer, Department of Behavioural Sciences at UWI.
In response to the question as to who would win the upcoming general elections, 53 per cent of the respondents said the UNC Coalition, while just 17 per cent said the incumbent People’s National Movement (PNM).
Thirty percent of respondents said they didn’t know who would win.
Asked whether they thought the Coalition would effectively manage the affairs of the country, 51 per cent of the respondents said yes, while 21 per cent said no. Twenty eight per cent said they didn’t know.
Asked whether they thought that the Coalition would form a stable Government, 46% said yes while 27% said no. Twenty-seven percent also didn’t know.
