A computer center has been opened by the GTA Faith Alliance in Richmond Hill.

Headed by Rev. Don Meredith a strong community activist against youth violence, the computer center has been in the works for months. It is funded in part by the Regional Municipality of York through the New Agency Development Funds. The US Embassy, Enbridge, Staples, and Big Tech has provided aid towards the construction and setting up of the Centre.

GTA Faith Alliance has been speaking out against youth violence and calling for impactful programs for youth for a number of years. The computer centre will offer the opportunity for youth 14-24 to gain employable skills, counselling support service, as well as hands on job training. The Alliance endeavor is to introduce this kind of an E-learning education to these youth as means of assisting them to find job, and keep up with technology.

Rev. Don Meredith, President of the GTA Faith Alliance said, "Development of our youth is vital to the future of our community. We need to provide our youth with options to deal with the challenges they face, while making their way through life. We must give them all the necessary tools they need to make positive decisions and contribute back to society in a meaningful way. “

Now that we have the support from a local government and corporations, we will be launching 69 more centre across the Greater Toronto Area to reach more youth over the next few years. The focus would be on providing computer repair and software training to youth. This would involve intensive computer based education, job placements, resume writing and interview skills .Our view is that this would help these youth find jobs and integrate better with society at large."

About GTA Faith Alliance:

The GTA Faith Alliance was established as a result of the on-going violence in the city.  Don Meredith organized 25 Faith and community leaders in the GTA to meet with the Toronto Police Chief and his staff.  The discussion focused on the escalation of youth violence in the city and how Faith Leaders can assist with its eradication.  The aim is to build stronger relationships with the police and the Community, while finding programs that can help our young people.
