Italy striker Alberto Gilardino talked about scoring the decisive equaliser in the World Cup qualifier against Ireland tonight.

His goal in the 89th minute allowed World Cup holders Italy to equalise the match against Ireland and qualify for the next World Cup in South Africa to defend their title. Alberto Gilardino thinks this was the most important goal scored in his international career. "It was a tough match, suffered, but that's what made it better," he said to Rai. "It was a balanced encounter but in the end we deserved the draw. "The 2-1 goal came because of a distraction of ours, fortunately we drew. I think this is the most important goal I've scored since wearing the Azzurri's shirt, credit to all the team who believed in it until the end." On the possibility of Brazilian-born Juventus striker Amauri joining the Italian national team, Gilardino said: "I am here and will try to hold on to my place until the last day, whatever [Marcello] Lippi decides will be accepted with serenity and we'll always be ready."
