The West Indies Cricket Board Selectors have named their squads for the opening matches of the Digicel home series against India which starts this Saturday, in  Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

The squads named for the one-off Twenty20 game and the first two ODIs are without Chris Gayle and Shiv Chanderpaul.

Gayle was the leading run scorer in the recently concluded Indian Premier League Tournament scoring 608 runs with 2 centuries  and was also named Player of the Tournament.

According to the Windies selectors, Gayle will not be considered for selection to the West Indies team before an intended meeting with himself, the selection committee, the WICB management and the West Indies team management. This meeting is necessary as a result of Gayle’s controversial  comments made in a radio interview last month.

There was no formal explanation about Chanderpaul’s omission and it appears the selectors will only consider the veteran left-hander for Test matches only.

Kemar Roach, the young Barbadian fast bowler has been rested for the Trinidad leg of the series and uncapped left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie of Jamaica, has been selected in the Twenty20 squad.

The selectors also have left out opening batsman Devon Smith and wicket-keeper/batsman Devon Thomas due to their performance in the recent home series against Pakistan.

Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard are not eligible for selection in the Twenty20 format as they did not participate in the last edition of the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament, which is part of the WICB selection criteria, they are however included in the One-Day squad.

The squads: T20i- Darren Sammy(Captain) Christopher Barnwell, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Andre Fletcher, Danza Hyatt, Ashley Nurse, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Krishmar Santokie and Lendi Simmons.

ODIs: Darren Sammy (Captain) Dwayne Bravo (Vice-Captain) Carlton Baugh (jr) ,

Davendra Bishoo, Darren  Bravo, Kirk Edwards, Anthony Martin, Kieron Pollard, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels  and Lendi Simmons.

Following Saturday’s Twenty20, the two ODIs will be played on June 6th and 8th in Trinidad.
